"Entraves" (2023) is a piece composed for the Plurielles female vocal ensemble and its conductor, Mitia Dubois. The text is derived from the same sentence translated into six languages: French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, and Polish. Far from being chosen at random, these six languages are the most spoken by native Europeans.

Et si je ne voulais pas de tout cela
What if I didn't want all this ?
Was wäre wenn ich das alles nicht wollte ?
E se non volessi tutto questo ?
¿ Y si no quisiera todo esto ?
A gdybym nie chciała tego wszystkiego ?

This collection of phrases is fragmented, deconstructed, mixed, and approached as a group of syllables constituting the very body of this composition. The range of sounds proposed by these translations is explored through a wide palette of musical colors. Thus, noises permeate the piece like a common thread, blending with other musical sounds. The instrumental ensemble added to the voices was determined by the creative constraint of the available resources on September 23, 2023, at the Palais des Fêtes in Strasbourg. These instruments play a major role in the composition of the work far beyond a mere accompaniment or sonic texture; the piece aims to blend different timbres, instrumental and vocal.
The choice of the phrase "Et si je ne voulais pas de tout cela ?" (And if I didn't want any of this?) as the text's body, and therefore of the work, is also not insignificant. This piece of music was an opportunity for introspective reflection on my own inability to say "No," an internal feeling of refusal, revolt, which is sometimes difficult to verbalize in everyday situations or on much larger and universal issues. These are our personal and internal obstacles to refusal.
However, this music describes nothing other than what it is; it does not aim to depict any particular situation or convey anything other than what it already does. It exists solely for the pleasure of listening.
